Ring the bells in Upper Sheringham Church!

All are invited to come and ring the church bells at All Saints Church in Upper Sheringham at their Bell Tower Open Day in September.

There were originally 3 mediaeval bells hung in a large frame high in the tower (this historic empty frame remains in situ).  The six current bells were cast in 1841, but ceased to be rung in the traditional manner back in the 1930’s.  Then there was an automated chime in the tower for many years, but this fell into disrepair and was removed when the toilet and kitchen were built.
 
The six bells in All Saints Church in Upper Sheringham have been restored and were re-installed into the church tower in September 2020 with new wheels, frame, and fittings following a £90,000 restoration project.
 
All Saints are now giving the public an opportunity to come along and try ringing the bells for themselves at their Bell Tower Open Day from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday 7 September. Everyone over 12 years old is welcome but all under 18’s must be accompanied by an appropriate adult.
 
Sue Morton, the Bell Tower Captain, said, “We invite all to come along and enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake whilst learning about the ancient art of bell-ringing and having a go yourself. No experience is necessary!”
 
There is no charge for the event, although donations are very much appreciated towards the maintenance of the bells.
