Paul and Linda Coleman 750
Norfolk couple's rain-soaked trek for Compassion

Paul and Linda Coleman, from SOUL Church, trekked a 100-mile from King’s Lynn to Great Yarmouth in wet weather, camping under the clouds, to raise money for Compassion’s Togo infant mortality appeal.

Paul and Linda Coleman from Spixworth managed to walk 100 miles along Norfolk footpaths on a journey from King's Lynn to Great Yarmouth over a wet few days on June 6-8

The couple have raised over £1,500 in sponsorship for Compassion's child survival project, the Different Path Appeal, which will save the lives of vulnerable mothers and babies in Togo. These donations plus any further sponsorship given before 24 June 2019 will be doubled by the UK Government, enabling the support of even more mothers and babies.

Linda Coleman said: “The walk was not an easy one. The weather was kind to us when we left King's Lynn, however, we were soon to get soaking wet on the Friday and Saturday. The last 10 miles was quite arduous as we headed round Brendon Water - the weeds were waist high and we soon got very wet, and struggled to stay upright on the muddy path. We didn’t enjoy the tent experience, and certainly didn’t get much sleep, but it was worth the discomfort to raise funds for an amazing cause."

Paul and Linda, who until recently worked in Pastoral Oversight for SOUL Church, are passionate advocates of the Christian charity Compassion and their child sponsorship programme. The couple has visited the two girls they have sponsored for over 12 years - Jeerapornfrom Thailand and Violet from Uganda – multiple times.

The challenge took the pair along the Nar Valley Way, Wensum Way, Marriott's Way, and Wherryman's Way

In Togo, 52 babies per 1,000 live births die before their first birthday. Compassion's Child Survival project tackles maternal and infant mortality at the heart of communities.  Delivered by the local church, this life-saving programme protects women during their pregnancy and ensures that their babies have a healthy start in life.
