The Box – Sprowston Methodist Church
The Box is a long-running weekly youth group run by Sprowston Methodist Church every Thursday evening. This year along with the games, group activities and Christian based talk, the team started to trial serving a free sit down evening meal for the young people who attend.
The Box is run by Sprowston Methodist Church (aka Rocky Road) every Thursday evening, including school holidays, from 6.45pm-8.15pm. This year, along with the games, group activities and Christian based talk, the team started to trial serving a free sit down evening meal for the young people who attend.
Kirsty Deary, the Families Networker for Sprowston Methodist Church, explains: “The kids had started to come really late. We had one week when the first child arrived 45 minutes late and when they arrived we had started to pack up because we figured no one was coming. After that I spoke to the young people and they said they were struggling to find time to do everything after school. So we said, ‘If you turn up on time we’ll give you food’. So it freed up the timing for them.”
The trial has proven a success and will now continue as part of the weekly format. Kirsty said: “We found that we are getting really good fellowship with the kids. I thought that they would come, eat quickly and want to get on with the games, but actually they really enjoy just sitting and chatting while they are having their tea.”
At the end of each session the young people choose the menu for the following week.
The Box welcomes all young people aged between 7-17 years.
