Music festival in five North Norfolk churches

This year’s Five Churches Festival will take place in July across the five churches of the Glaven Valley Benefice, and tickets are now available for all the concerts.

Following last year’s successful event, each of the five churches, Cley, Glandford, Letheringsett, Wiveton and Blakeney will be hosting their own spectacular music event during the second week of July, with the proceeds from ticket sales going to support the ongoing costs of these historic buildings.

The festival launches in Wiveton Church, pictured above, on Wednesday July 10 with a concert by the renowned and entertaining vocal ensemble The Kings Men, the choral scholars from King’s College Cambridge, in a varied programme spanning choral classics, folksongs, blues/jazz and popular arrangements.

Chaos Collective, the vibrant resident string quartet, will be at Letheringsett Church on Thursday July 11 presenting an exciting programme entitled ‘Homelands’,  featuring music by Shostakovich, Dvorak amongst others.

Also on Thursday, the Festival will embrace the regular community Thursdays@Three concert series in Cley, showcasing the winners of this year’s ‘Norfolk Young Musician’, soprano Alice Platten and violinist Tristan McCardel, in a recital with Five Churches Festival Artistic Director, Brenda Blewett.

Glandford Church will host the award-winning accordion and saxophone pair, Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo in a rich and varied programme on Friday July 12, followed by summer evening jazz with The Chris Cooper Trio and all-you-can-eat pizza at the Glandford Deli.

On Saturday July 13, Cley Church transforms itself into the venue for a spectacular evening of Music from the Movies celebrating film music from across the ages presented by Chaos Collective and vocalist, Ella McCready. This will be preceded by an audience with acclaimed BBC writer, broadcaster and film critic, Francine Stock in conversation with Rev Richard Lawry.

The Festival Finale will take place at Blakeney Church on Sunday July 14 - a celebration concert with many of the favourite Festival artists.

Tickets are £15 for each event (unless otherwise indicated) including a free Festival Programme. To book, visit fivechurchesfestival.com .
