Norwich Soul Church cross and opening revealed

Soul Church in Norwich has announced the date of the official opening of its new, multi-million pound, 1,200-seater complex on Heartsease Lane which will have a four-metre illuminated cross on its frontage.

The building will be officially opened with a weekend of celebrations, guided tours and services on March 2 and 3, 2024.

Pastors Jon & Chantel Norman said: “Our new Soul Church building will be a magnificent hub for the city and local community, a place where people will meet with Jesus and lives will be changed – we’d love you to be part of the story.

“This is going to be such an exciting event for the church in Norwich and we’re so thankful for everyone who has supported us as we’ve worked towards this momentous occasion.

Meanwhile, Norwich City Council planners have just given the green light for the new church to erect an illuminated cross 3.8m high and 2.5m wide, 5m off the ground on its front.

The steel cross comes from the former church building on the same site, known as the Norwich Family Life Church, which was destroyed in February 2006 after it was struck by lightning.

The initial proposal for the new church was applied for in 2019 and ground was first broken in October 2021 while the congregation is currently based in a converted industrial unit in Mile Cross.

The new church will include a 1,200-seat auditorium, nursery, community shop, cafe and sensory room.
There will also be car parking, with 242 spaces, including 13 for the disabled and 32 cycle parking spaces.

Soul Church has said they hope to create "a bright and welcoming space where everyone can belong".
