Newday to bring 6k young Christians to Norfolk

NewDay10awebOver 6000 young Christians will converge on the Royal Norfolk Showground near Norwich on August 13 to play sports, listen to great bands, get involved in community activities, to learn about God and explore the relevance of the Christian faith.
Now in its ninth year, Newday gathers young people from churches all over the UK and beyond for six days of Bible teaching, worship and a range of seminars on subjects as diverse as social networking, loving the poor and the evidence for God.

This year organisers are delighted to welcome renowned academic Prof John Lennox  for the first time, to address the question 'Has Science Killed God?' Professor Lennox has written several books on the topic, debated the likes of Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, and lectures all over the world, alongside his work as Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford.

NewDayFencePaintNewday spokesperson Jennie Pollock said: “When they're not worshipping, learning or playing sports, many of the young people will put their faith into action by serving the local community. For many it is a real highlight to be able to spend an afternoon helping those in need in and around Norwich through gardening, maintenance and clean-up projects organized by This is Life with two city-centre projects supported by Norwich City Council.

“On leaving the campsite in 2011, delegates were stunned to hear news of the riots taking place up and down the country. Through this event, and others of its kind held throughout the summer, young people are learning to buck the trend of self-focused individualism and see themselves as part of a wider story. The implication that there is a God who exists and who cares about their deepest needs spurs them and strengthens them to care about the needs of those around them,” said Jennie.

“Our hope is that they will not only buck the trend but set a new one.”

Newday 2012, which is run by Newfrontiers, a worldwide family of churches with over 700 churches in over 60 nations around the world, will take place from August 13 to 19 and bookings are open now at www.newdaygeneration.org
