Christian bookshop in Norwich closed down

CLCTimBloomfieldCLC Bookshop closed down its Norwich store on Prince of Wales Road on Saturday April 7 due to a shortage of suitable staff to take it over.

The present manager of the Norwich shop, Tim Bloomfield, is leaving to take up another post within CLC and the shortage of suitable personnel within CLC UK has resulted in the imminent closure, said a company statement.

At a meeting of the leadership of CLC last weekend, after much deliberation, it was agreed that the shop should commence and a clearance sale start immediately and then cease its current operations on April 7.

"Unfortunately it is not possible for CLC to continue its ministry in Norwich at the present time," said Tim Bloomfield. "The situation has been under review and the subject of prayerful discussion for several months now, and it has been a difficult conclusion to come to.

"CLC nationally has been short of personnel for some time now, with not enough people feeling called to serve in our Mission on a full-time basis.

"As a result of this we have had to take some difficult decisions in curtailing come of our activities. CLC still recognises the need for our literature ministry in Norwich and would consider making that available again in the future if it became possible," said Tim.

"On a personal note - Whilst looking forward to taking up my new role within CLC I regret that the bookshop will no longer be operating and know that it will be greatly missed by many people."

CLC has had a bookshop in Norwich since 1960. It first opened in the St. Giles part of the city, but has been providing Christian books and resources from its Prince of Wales Road site for over 35 years.

CLC is a non-denominational mission which started in 1941 with the purpose of making evangelical Christian literature as widely available as possible. From very small beginnings it now has a range of centres around the country, a wholesale division, a new retail website going live in May, and is active in nearly 60 countries around the world.
