Yarmouth churches get connected on the web

NYWebTeam1webGreat Yarmouth and Gorleston churches are getting themselves connected by launching an innovative new portal website aimed at trying to bring the area’s Christian community closer together by improving its channels of communication.

The new website, www.networkyarmouth.co.uk, has just gone live and is packed with news, events, features, resources, directories and much more.

The site is being backed by a team from the Borough Wide Churches Forum and its member churches. BCWF chairman Peter Paine, administrator Judith Edmonds, and news reporters Peter Lyle and Yvonne Hills make up the team.

The site has been designed by Keith Morris who is the communications officer for Network Norwich a similar website set up 18 months ago and which now has over 1000 registered users and is attracting over 65,000 page views every month.

“The aim of the site is to improve the channels of communication and therefore co-ordination between the different churches and Christian organisations in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston,” said Keith.

“Through the website you can find out much of what’s going on in the local Christian community and connect with people from other groups with similar interests to yourself. We have action zones for young people, prayer and social action and can add more if people want us to.

Peter Paine said: “We want to encourage as many people as possible to visit the site, register with it and then contribute to it by submitting stories, events and comments or joining in the forums to make it a real live community.”

Already on the site are directories for churches and Christian projects. “If your group is not on the site then you are missing an opportunity to tell everyone else what you are doing,” said Peter.

“We have sections for news, people, a resource and funding finder, plus a section devoted to training courses in the area. We are also looking at adding sections to advertise your volunteer and job vacancies.

“You will get most out of the website by completing the short registration form when you first visit as you can then receive a regular e-mail bulletin about what’s new on the site as well as contribute fully to all sections,” he said.

You can contact the web team for more details or to offer help, news stories etc or request the free e-newsletter at web@networkyarmouth.co.uk or on 01493 442371.
