Cathedral to host Norwich service for veterans

Outside the Wire, the service for veterans run by the Matthew Project, is holding a thank you service at St John's Cathedral in Norwich.

The service has been organised by the charity ‘Outside the Wire’ for all military veterans and their families as a thank you to those who have sacrificed so much for their country and to show our appreciation for those who have served in so many theatres of war.

Dr Andrew Braddock, the Dean of Norwich Cathedral, Lady Dannatt, the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, and her husband General the Lord Richard Dannatt, former Chief of the General Staff, will be among those attending. There will also be uniformed representation from the Army, RAF and Navy and a bugler for the last post. The service will be live streamed into care homes across the county.

Outside the Wire is a charity working under the umbrella of the Matthew Project and specialises in giving assistance to serving and ex-military personnel. The transition from serving in the UK’s Armed Forces to civilian life presents multiple challenges. With little support on the ‘outside’, veterans who are already struggling with mental ill health or PTSD often turn to drugs and alcohol in order to cope. With a pandemic and cost of living rises there is an even bigger problem.

The service will be held at St. John’s Cathedral on Unthank Road on Sunday April 23 at 2pm. All  are welcome and there will be refreshments after the event in the Cathedral Narthex.

For any Clergy that would like to attend to represent their own community, please contact Rev Patrick Limacher, email patrick@limacher.org.uk.
