Group walks to highlight violence against women

The Magdalene Group is putting on a walking challenge in May to highlight its work relating to violence against women and girls.

The team are walking either individually or collectively to highlight the fact that 141 women were killed in the UK through male violence in 2021. The Magdalene Group has been supporting victims for almost 30 years. Its Violence Against Women and Girls strategy is becoming higher profile and is now one of the key areas of the Police Safety Plan.

The walks are taking place on Mondays during May, culminating in a final walk along the north Norfolk coast on June 1. On the final walk the group will carry a flag bearing the names of the 141 women who have died.

Proceeds from the walk will support both adults’ and children’s services. These include the Doorway Women’s Service (working with vulnerable women), The Rose Project (for children and young people in Norfolk who have experience sexual exploitation or are vulnerable to it) and the Jigsaw Programme (delivering training to young people and professionals).

You can donate to the Magdalene group in support of the walkers here.

Or you can ring the Magdalene group on 01603 610256 to find out about how to join the walks.
