YMCA launches appeal for new Norwich community hub

YMCA Norfolk has launched a public fundraising appeal to raise £25,000 for its innovative plans to build a community hub, including a nursery, cafe and soft play area, in the heart of Norwich.

The Christian charity received planning approval last month, and on-site work at the Jubilee Hall site on Aylsham Road is under way to build the multi-service centre, set to feature an Ofsted-registered nursery, a community cafe and soft play centre.

YMCA Norfolk CEO, Tim Sweeting, said: “We are really excited to be able to get on with delivering this community resource that will enable people to invest back in their local area while enjoying a coffee or great childcare.”

Louise Hinchley, Head of Communities at YMCA Norfolk, said: “Our nursery will encourage children to be curious and adventurous in their play and learning so they grow in appreciation of the world around them and feel ready for the transition to school when the time comes.”

The nursery aims to encompass a reduced technology approach to childcare, encouraging outdoor play and exploration. The garden space and trees outside the Nursery lends itself to a forest school environment for that can be accessed in all weather.

Marketing and Fundraising Manager, Susie Knights, said: “After carrying out months of research, we identified a need for these services within the area and therefore we are confident that the YMCA Norfolk hub will transform lives within the local community.

We’re hoping to raise a total of £25,000 through our Just Giving Campaign and therefore are asking our supporters to help with a donation. Each donation will make a huge difference! Please remember no amount is too big or small.

“If you're up for a challenge, then why not host your own fundraising event with the full support of our fundraising department? From bake offs and quizzes to live music or hosting your own sport event; there’s lots of different ways for everyone to get involved. We would love to hear from individuals, community groups or businesses that can offer financial or practical support to take the refurbishment forward.”
