Cup finals prove exciting end to NCFL youth season

A weekend of cup final action brought the Norfolk Christian Football League’s youth sections to close for this year.

The action started with the U14s and U12s playing at Thorpe Recreation Ground in front of a large crowd of supporters on Saturday May 12. The U14s match was incredibly close between Brooke Adventurers and Happisburgh, with Brooke clinching the match in the final minute. There were medals and trophies all round, presented by Mike Culwick, as Brooke won the Cup and Happisburgh won the League.

Some fantastic goals were scored in the U12 match between Thorpe Rovers and Sprowston Magpies, as well as some amazing saves. Thorpe won 7-1, with two goals from Finley Green, top goal scorer of the U12s, who has racked up 22 throughout the season.

The u16 final between  the Blue and Purple Lighthouse teams took place in Sheringham on a damp and chilly afternoon, a complete contrast in weather to the morning finals at Thorpe.

A very even game between the rival teams with the Blues taking an early lead through Adrian Perry, but Matthew Mutton levelled the score before halftime. The Purples took the lead with Alex Smith scoring from close range. In the second half the blues made it 2-2 with Joe Mercer scoring and with the game heading towards extra time, Matt Mutton blasted the Purples in front in the last minute making the final score 3-2. The Lighthouse pastor Ian Savory presented the medals and the cup to the Purples.

U10 final between Brooke and Old Catton Soul was hosted by Brooke and played on a pleasant afternoon on Sunday May 13. The old Catton team soon found the back of the net and throughout the game were too strong for a gallant Brooke team who had done extremely well to get to the final by beating bigger and stronger teams in the cup competition. The final score being 9-0 to Old Catton and although Brooke had chances to score a conciliation goal the Catton Keeper was in superb from. Brooke never gave up despite the score and kept plugging away to the very end.

Congratulations to all teams for their attitude, skill and the effort they have all put in.
