Cawston churchgoers give presents to homeless

2018: Worshippers at Cawston Parish Church brought gifts along to the service last Sunday which would be passed on to the St Martin’s Housing Trust as they go about their work with the homeless this winter.

As the Festive Season draws to a close, churchgoers in Cawston marked the Feast of the Epiphany this weekend by focussing on giving rather than receiving. Epiphany is the time of year when Christians remember the visit of Wise Men to Jesus, when they brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Inspired by their gifts for the infant Jesus, the congregation was asked to share some of their Christmas presents with those who need them the most.

This ‘Messy Church’ service gave everyone the opportunity to decorate a gift bag to send along with the presents, and a gift tag with their own special message of love and support for the people who receive them.

We wanted to give an opportunity for people to give as well as receiving, and to share some of the joy of Christmas with the wider community.’ He added ‘The St Martin’s Housing Trust do such valuable work with the homeless community in Norwich and we wanted to support them in a thoughtful yet practical way.’

Messy Church happens at Cawston on the first Sunday of each month at 10:30am. Services during the winter are in Cawston Primary Academy.
