Bafta winner creates Norwich Cathedral film

Today Norwich Cathedral launches ‘Norwich… a story’, a short video by local BAFTA winning filmmaker Rob Whitworth capturing the essence of Norwich through some amazing photographs.

Rob, a 35 year-old photographer who studied at the Norwich School of Design (now Norwich University of the Arts), has made ‘Flow Motion’ videos (a term coined by his Dad) for some of the world’s leading tourism organisations including in Barcelona, Dubai and Singapore - receiving over 9 million views on his Vimeo channel alone. The Norwich video is his first for a UK organisation, other than the BBC. He gifted the video to Norwich Cathedral after working on the project throughout the spring, having relocated to Norwich from the Far East ahead of the birth of his second child with wife Sue. As well as being used by the cathedral for its own promotional activity, the video has been deemed to be of such quality that it will play a central role in a four-month digital marketing campaign funded by the Norwich Business Improvement District (BID), delivered by VisitNorwich.

James Shelton, Marketing Manager at Norwich Cathedral, said: “This video took three months to film but the project has been three years in the making. After seeing an article about Rob’s Barcelona video in the EDP in 2014, one of my overriding aspirations upon commencing in this role was to work with Rob on a video to promote the Cathedral. I am so thankful to Rob for his generosity, in gifting his time and expertise to me and this project, and I am beyond excited to see how the video will be received by local people. We’re a proud bunch in this part of the world and I’m confident that anyone who has an affinity for the city will want to see it."

Filmmaker, Rob Whitworth, said: “Norwich is a beautiful city with so much history. I’ve had a great time exploring and filming some of the sights during this project, experiencing some of the best views of Norwich with the aim of capturing them in the best light. When you live somewhere it’s easy to not appreciate it, so it was cool to see a familiar place with fresh eyes.”

A targeted digital marketing campaign will use Rob's film to inspire and attract more visitors to come and spend a short-break, longer stay or day visit in Norwich. Nick Bond, Head of Tourism at VisitNorwich said: “Rob has produced a stunning film. We’re so fortunate to be amongst a partnership of the willing - benefiting from Rob’s unique skills, the Cathedral’s initiative in commissioning the work, Norwich BID campaign investment and our agency Fountain’s digital marketing expertise we are going to show a lot of people some very appealing pictures of Norwich.”
