Norwich joins in Pentecost global wave of  prayer

Several hundred people from dozens of different churches across greater Norwich gathered at Norwich's Anglican Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday (June 4) for a Global Day of Prayer service.

They were welcomed by Canon Peter Doll from the cathedral and Danny Doran-Smith, chair of Transforming Norwich.

Jill Gower, Director of Call to Prayer, said the service was the culmination of ten days of 24-hour-a-day prayer from Ascension Day (May 25) under the banner of Thy Kingdom Come, backed by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

“Tonight is all about prayer,” said Jill. “We want to pray for God’s kingdom to come, to break through in every area of society, into our communities, local authorities, health, education and the media.”

After worship, led by pianist Chrissie Minton, the congregation was invited to visit ten different prayer station dotted around the cathedral which each drew their attention to a specific area to pray for.

These included business and commerce, agriculture, families and the persecuted church as well as the NHS, education, local government and arts and the media. Prayer was also offered for those affected by the terrorist atrocities in London and Manchester.

Gail Halley and Dominic de Souza also led prayers from the front, before Jill prayed a blessing for the United Kingdom.

Rev Nigel Fox finished the service with a heart-felt plea for the fire of the Holy Spirit and revival to come down.
