Norwich groups raise £500 for Middle East refugees

FundraisingMUCFA fundraising breakfast to aid refugees fleeing violence in Iraq and Syria superbly organised by ‘SHE IS…..’ a group of young women in Norwich, alongside Mothers Union Norwich, raised £500 in 90 minutes!

The abundant food supplied by Café Zest in House of Fraser in Norwich was mouth watering, tempting many to ignore their waist line!

Young mothers with infants in tow mixed happily with older mothers and grandmothers to share their concerns for families in Iraq and other countries fleeing persecution because of their faith.  John Drake spoke briefly about the work the Mothers Union in Baghdad are doing to alleviate the poverty and isolation the refugees endure. He stressed repeatedly that it was the Mothers who ran the health clinic, the mothers who organised the food relief programme, the mothers who organised the crèche for young children creating some kind of normality for the youngest family members. He spoke highly of the work he had witnessed Mothers’ Union were doing in Baghdad and said the need for continued funding was essential.  The event ended with a time of silent prayer for the families in Iraq and others fleeing their homes and countries.

The money raised will be will be added to at a Carol Service organised by Mothers’ Union at St Margaret’s Church, Old Catton on  Monday December 1st  at 7.30pm to which all are invited and channelled directly through Mothers’ Union to the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf Appeal which will fund the needs of refugees at St George’s Baghdad and other Kurdish churches in the region.
