Norwich alcohol-free nightclub is a UK first

OpenSnapWeb2009: The UK’s very first under 18s alcohol-free nightclub is set to be launched in the Open Venue in Norwich city centre at the end of August, six years after the vision for it was first drawn up by Christian entrepreneur Graham Dacre.

The nightclub has been designed by Luminar Leisure, the UK leisure company behind former popular Norwich nightspots Lava & Ignite and Liquid.  The new 460-capacity nightclub at Open contains state-of-the art lighting, sound system and DJ equipment, and aims to provide a high quality, safe and enjoyable nightclub experience for young people.

Open intend to run the nightclub with a full roster of adult staff members including professional security and door staff, with voluntary support provided by experienced youth workers including members of Connexions, the Matthew Project and Norfolk County Council Children’s Services.

Venue Marketing and Events Manager, Rachael Murray, Said: “We are really excited to be launching Open’s new nightclub, and once again putting Norwich at the forefront of youth provision in the UK.  There has been a clearly identified need to provide positive and fun activities for young people to take part in,  particularly during weekend evenings, and we are extremely pleased to be launching a great quality venue dedicated to young people and geared towards providing them with enjoyable, safe and alcohol free club experiences.”

The first event in the venue will be the eagerly anticipated SNAP Re-launch Party on August 28 which will kick off a regular series of SNAP club nights which will be held bi-weekly.  SNAP nightclub events used to attract up to 1900 young people to any one event at venues in Riverside.

OpenBridgeWebHeld in partnership with KISS 105-108 the Re-launch Party will feature KISS 105-108 breakfast DJ Thomsta in the nightclub, who will be playing a mixture of r’n’b, chart and dance anthems.  The world famous DJ, Producer, Remixer and Radio/TV Presenter  'Ray Keith' will be taking over the decks with a Drum 'n' Bass set on stage in Open's main live venue.

Tickets for the SNAP Re-launch Party are £5, and can be purchased in person at the Open box office at 20 Bank Plain, Bethel Street Police Station and Wymondham Police Station.  Tickets are also available by phone or online through the UEA Ticket Office by calling 01603 508050 or visiting www.ueaticketbookings.co.uk.  Given the previous popularity of the events, young people are advised to book tickets soon to avoid disappointment.

And there will be a chance for a number of lucky young people to win VIP passes for the SNAP Re-launch Party.  A VIP pass will entitle the winner to free tickets to the event for them and five mates, access to special VIP Areas, a chance meet the DJ’s and free drinks all night.  To be in with a chance of winning, visit www.open247.org.uk and apply before August 21.

Following the Re-launch Party, Open will be holding SNAP nights every other Friday night, and over the coming months will be developing a programme of nightclub events that will offer a mix of specialist music, live bands and other performances.
